Rick on the Rocks is a Floridian dad blogger who loves to travel and explore new places. When he’s not blogging or traveling, Rick enjoys spending time with his wife and kids. In this blog post, Rick shares some of his favorite food experiences from his recent trip to Flores, Indonesia.
Rick visited Flores in March of 2017 as part of a road trip across Southeast Asia. His primary purpose for visiting was to see the famed Komodo dragons and trekking through the jungles in search of wild elephants but he also had the opportunity to taste some amazing local cuisine. One of Rick’s favorite experiences while in Flores was eating at a roadside stand near Lukob waterfall. The food here was simple but delicious – boiled eggs with chili sauce and crispy pork belly skewers. It was a great way to start the day before exploring the beautiful surroundings around Lukob waterfall.
While in Flores, Rick also had the chance to try some local beverages such as coffee and milky tea made from pandanus leaves. He especially enjoyed trying these drinks at a small cafe near Lukob waterfall where he spent much of his free time relaxing after days of hiking and exploring.
Overall, Rick had an incredible experience visiting Flores with its stunning natural scenery and delicious local cuisine. He would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re ever in the area!

He’s a big fan of Floridian cocktails – so much so that he wrote a book called “The Florida Bartender’s Bible: More Than 500 Recipes for Classic and Contemporary Drinks”. Rick shared his favorite libation recipes with us.
- Margarita: Rick loves to make margaritas year-round at home, but he especially enjoys them in the heat of summer. For this recipe, you’ll need white tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Add club soda or sparkling water for extra fizz.
- Cuba Libre: This classic cocktail is made with light rum, sugar syrup (or honey), lime juice, and ice. You can add a shot of 151-proof rum for a little kick.
- Hurricane: This potent drink is perfect for those hot days on the beach. It combines silver tequila, dark rum, pineapple juice, grenadine (syrup), and cranberry juice. For an added zing, add a squirt of lime or lemon juice before serving.
